Hopefully going on a birding trip with Snouty at least once a year will be an annual event. We were disussing where to go for a while - we were considering going to Ironwood Road to get getter views/ photos of Golden Winged Warblers but reports of lots of ticks scared us away. We decided to go to Bashakill and the surrounding area. Bashakill was great - always nice to be there. Highlights included Bald Eagle, Marsh Wren (heard), Virginia Rails, Ovenbirds, etc Snouty had some intel from ebird about an Acadian Flycatcher nearby at a location with a waterfall. I was sceptic, and we went to the location he found. The second we got out of the car, I heard it! A little snouting around and we got some nice views of it. I have been trying to see an Acadian Flycatcher for years now and was treated to good views of it. We drove to Monguap Reservoir and went on one of the trails. There was lots of evidence of Pileated Woodpecker activity and we might have heard one but did not see it. We did see Ovenbirds, Yellow Rumped Warblers and a Blackburnian was a nice surprise. We ended the day at High Point State Park and that was somewhat disappointing except for seeing a type of hummingbird moth. I think I got a few ticks there so put a bit of a damper on the day, but overall it was an epic Indiana Jones type of Adventure.
