Smith's Pond, Rockville Center

This is a new location for me.  There has been reports of 3 PineWarblers, a Nashville Warbler, Yellowlegs, Long Billed Dowitchers, Wilson's Snipes, and a Eurasian Teal here.  The shorebirds were too distant in the NW corner and I didn't bother with my scope to look harder for the Dowitchers and Snipes.  I didn't see the Nashville Warbler but did see the 3 Pine Warblers, a Cooper's Hawk and Red Tailed Hawk.  I'm fairly certain I spooked a Rusty Blackbird.

Eurasian Teal

There were reports of a continuing Eurasian Teal at Sanatapogue Creek, Lindenhurst.  I got to see it but the photos weren't so great.

Jones Beach Inlet, Bonaparte Gulls

This winter there has been reports of an unusual amount of Razorbills, Dovekies and Bonaparte Gulls close to shore.  I tried to find them, but just saw Bonaparte Gulls (up close).

Happy New Year!

2022 was a good year for me adding to my life list.  The trip to Aruba definitely helped.  Hoping to get some good birds in 2023 and add to my life list.  Just out of curiousity, I'll be making a year list - I'm wondering how many birds I see each year, however, I'm not going to chase birds that I've seen before just to add to my life list unless they're easy to find. (I might chase ducks, but not Winter Wrens)  I went to Tobay JFK Sanctuary and found a Bittern as my first bird for the year.  When I got home, I saw a Sharp Shinned Hawk by my house.
