Most of my visit to Jones Beach today was from my car - only occasionally getting out to scan the dunes or get a better photo (to avoid the heat coming from under car) The amount of raptors were impressive - most were off Wantagh Parkway and were Red Tailed Hawks -one was feeding on a Canada Goose, a few light morph Rough
Legged Hawks- one chased away by Crows, a Short Eared Owl popped up briefly, Northern Harriers over the dunes as
usual. The Northen Harrier I saw was white underneath - a juvenile perhaps onto becoming a grey ghost. By the coast guard lot was a large flock of a mix of Horned Larks,
Snow Buntings, and about a dozen Lapland Longspurs.
